Pelusey Newsletter - January 2009
Happy New Year to all. Can you believe it is now 2009, where did 2008 go?
Where were we?
January 2003 - India
After many years of wanting to go to India, we finally made it in 2003. We had the excuse of getting photos for a series of books for Macmillan on Australia's Neighbours. One whole book was to be on India. This country is an assault on the senses as soon as you arrive. We got a hotel in Delhi and didn't venture too far the first day. We did meet the hotel owner who encouraged us to get a driver. What a way to travel. Our driver seemed to know what sort of thing we like to see. We even went to stay at his families farm in rural Punjab. I will never forget the taste of real Indian Chai made with milk from a freshly milked buffalo.
Everywhere we went Indians were cricket mad. They all loved Steve Waugh. A favourite memory is watching Steve Waugh get a famous century at the SCG, while sitting on the floor of an Indian blanket and money changer.
Red Sky Ride
The excitement is cranking up. Or is that a sign of exhaustion. Last year we became involved in the Red Sky Ride - an 800 kilometre bicycle ride around the South West and Golden Outback areas of Western Australia. Before you all think we have gone completely mad, we are donating our time to the ride by taking photos and video of the dedicated cyclists. Last year the cyclists raised $150,000 riding to cure cancer. This year the aim is to reach $250,000.
The cyclists are currently in their intense training phase. To find out how hard it is to train for such an event go the Red Sky Ride website and read the riders' blogs. They wear us out just reading them. If anyone would like to support this great cause go to the website and donate some money.
For the golfers out there, the Red Sky Ride Golf Day is Thursday 5th February. And for the cricket fans, Justin Langer is the guest speaker at the Red Sky Ride Breakfast on 11th February. Details about both events are on the website.
During the Red Sky Ride, we will be following the cyclists for the 8 days and 800 kilometres. We will be uploading a range of images onto the Red Sky Ride blog each day so that you can follow the progress of the ride. We will also doing a video! See below about out new toy.
We have a new toy!
It is a little known fact that Mike has qualifications from the Film and Television Institute in Fremantle in documentary film making and drama film making. To take advantage of these skills we have bought a high end high definition hard drive (HDD) camcorder. Things have changed a little since Mike learnt how to cut and splice film in the editing suite. The editing suite is now the computer screen but the general concepts of film making haven't changed. We look forward to providing video to compliment our photographic images. We will also upload any edited videos onto the web.
Our new Sony HDR - SR12.
